2026 Burns Night Supper & Ceilidh

-

24th January 2026  â€‹

-

7pm start, doors open 6.30pm

We're taking a break from strict tradition this year for our festive Burns night. We'll still be having the conventional Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, followed by sumptuous desserts but instead of performing all the recitations and speeches that normally follow the meal, we'll be welcoming the fabulous Five String Thing.Ceilidh band who will be playing a selection of reels, jigs and songs for us to birl, swing and dance the night away, in fine ceilidh style. Of course, dancing is not compulsory and the band have great singers who will entertain us while we gather our breath.

To give us plenty of space for dancing, tickets (£25) will be strictly limited and available in advance only.

-

3rd February 2026

-

7.30pm start, bar open from 7pm

Come and hear first hand about the discovery of the largest and most complete ichthyosaur skeleton which was found at Rutland Water in 2021. Nicknamed the Rutland Sea Dragon, the dolphin like marine reptile, lived over 180 million years ago, measured 10 metres long and its skull weighed more than a tonne.

The sea dragon was discovered by Joe Davis, Head of Reserve Management at the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust and he will be talking about the discovery and what happened next.

This meeting is open to all, both male and female, and is organised by Barrowden and Wakerley WI. Tickets are £8 for non WI members and are available in advance from the Community Shop.
